Movement for Every Body
Moving your body does not have to mean running marathons or joining a boot camp. It is about finding a type of movement that fits your life and makes you feel good. Over the past few weeks, we have looked at three different ways people move: Tai Chi, Yoga and Personal Training, and what each can offer.
Tai Chi is calm and gentle. The slow, flowing movements help with balance, coordination and focus. It is great for easing stiffness, improving posture and calming a busy mind.
Yoga combines stretching, strength and breathing. It can be relaxing or challenging depending on the style you choose. It is perfect for improving flexibility, easing tension and helping you unwind.
Personal Training gives you guidance and motivation. A trainer can help you learn how to move safely, stay on track with your goals and keep you accountable. It is especially helpful if you are not sure where to start or need a bit of encouragement.
No matter which style you choose, movement is about progress, not perfection. Even small amounts of regular activity can lift your mood, help with sleep and reduce stress.
“I have noticed that once people find a type of movement they enjoy, they start to look forward to it, not dread it.”
If you are new to exercise, start simple: a walk around the block, stretching when you wake up or before bed or joining a local class. The key is to choose something you enjoy so you will want to keep doing it.
